LTGDC’s interventions in Barking have bolstered and supported the renaissance of the Town Centre and surrounding areas by providing new retail and leisure, new space for creative and cultural industries and secured new housing.
The Barking Central scheme, developed by Redrow for Barking and Dagenham Council, secured by LTGDC, has already seen 247 new homes, a new town square and a lifelong learning centre.
To the west of the town centre LTGDC has used its CPO powers to ensure the regeneration of under utilised industrial land. Developed into The Creative Industries Quarter this area now provides accommodation and business support for creative industries such as theatre, arts and design. Following the completion of the first phase with the refurbishment and extension of a historic building on the banks of the Roding by Rooff, a further phase being delivered by Bouygues has gained planning permission and will see the construction of two new buildings creating 743 sq m of commercial space and 140 new homes.
