Block demolition to make way for new homes

Â
East London Housing Association Poplar HARCA invited local residents, MP Jim Fitzpatrick, and partners London Thames Gateway Development Corporation to witness the demolition of the Inner London Hotel and the start of a transformational regeneration programme for the Aberfeldy area.
The demolition marks the beginning of a ten year ambitious regeneration programme which will see the Aberfeldy area transformed, with new homes, more green space and a new village centre, bringing much needed new facilities like a community and expanded health centre.
The plans will also make the Aberfeldy area more accessible, with improved transport links on and off the area, including three new pedestrian crossings. One across the A12, one across the A13, and a Pedestrian bridge across River lea to Canning Town, the latter as part of a healthy walking scheme.
Resident Jenny Sylvain said:”Having lived in this area for many years, seeing the Inner London Hotel being knocked down makes the regeneration plans for our community a reality. It is an exciting time for us and the future of the Aberfeldy.”
The regeneration programme has been made possible with funding from London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and The Homes and Community Agency.
Peter Andrews, Chief Executive of the LTGDC, said: “This demolition marks the start of a new era for Poplar. Poplar HARCA’s plans for new family homes and community facilities are exciting and much needed and we had no doubts in supporting them by finally clearing the site so work can now begin in earnest.”
Over the next few years Poplar HARCA will be working closely with Tower Hamlets Council to gain planning permission as well as consulting with local residents
